Printed CV, Business cards and Portfolio...

All the above items turned out really good once they were printed and as you can see in the pics are looking really good. No problems in the print apart from the CV doesn't show up the grey lines very well on the background, even the print service couldn't work out that one because everything else worked fine so i will just have to experiment myself for that one butt the CV still looks smart.

Touching up CV and business cards for printing...

Business card back:

Business card front:

New CV:

Here are my finally finished CV and Business cards ready for printing for hand in, the changes i made were of the font I used for the actually information text as i felt it went with my logo and was allot easier to read which is always a good thing.I added an orange colour too try and warm up the overall design and not get it too mono tone in its design which i think works really well in the final designs. I also formated the text layout so it looked more like a cv and less like a food menu as mariah suggested lol.

The text i changed too is comic book form the journal original i now need to get these printed and hand them in with the portfolio, blog and sketchbook.

My finished portfolio...

Back of portfolio:

Front of portfolio:

Here is the end result of my portfolio, i decided to do a fold out A3 poster leaflet, rather then a book like i first fort. the idea was to put a small sample of multi medias i have done over the last year for employers to get a good taste of my skill set. i haven't bothered with descriptions as ive done that on my website and left several links for the person to go onto my website. Ive kept the branding exactly the same as my site and other medias such as business cards and CV so it all ties in nicely...

What i think about the site...

The finished site looks brilliant, im really pleased to have been part of the web team. As a group i think we worked really well together and got it done as quickly as the other teams would let us. I didn't have the most vital role, but i tried to help out where ever i could and i think we did well in sharing the work load between all the web team. To sum things up i think the site looks very professional and the process has really added to my team working skill set :)...

Adding to google maps...

We also added a google maps function to the sites getting here page, it has information on getting to the exhibition through all available transport links including, car, train, bus and were people can park at the event. We even set an email up so people can email us with any travel or parking concerns.

Finishing touches on the website for exhibition...

Once the graphics had been added to the home page it was noticed that the colours of the outlined figures didn't quite match the sites branding. So we changed them to a grey colour and straight away they looked much more at home on the site, instant fix...

The group also discussed that the caution lettering looked alot better with the untampered photo in the background as apposed to the red one.

we also came up with the idea of making the individual profile pics like polaroids which works really well with the websites design as it looks causal but well presented. The font also works well with the theme of casual young design element.

3 pieces of work for the exhibition:

Image: 1

Here are the three pieces of i work i have chosen to preview in the exhibition. I did have other choices but i felt these best showed off what i have learnt at university and show my range of abilities better then just three very similar choices. My favorite is image 1 because i really have grown using illustrator and i feel it is my direction after university in searching for work as an illustrator or graphic designer. I also decided to show a 3d pieces because it is a topic which has been covered so much while at university so it made sense to have it in the exhibition. 3d isnt my best skill but i have progressed so much with it since the start of university.

here is the text to accompany each piece:

3 pieces of work descriptions

Name of project: 2D Animation

Brief and description: Create an animation catered towards young children.

Conceptual and technical process: This was a character that I designed for my 2d animation in the 1st year. Lily the ladybird was created in illustrator and is basically a composition of techniques including gradients and reflections using the pen tool and gradient mesh tool.

Image 2

Name of project: Logo design for a small travel company in Cambridge

Brief and description: Create a logo for a small travel company looking for a fresh image and branding.

Conceptual and technical process: The logo itself came about from me doing a lot of icon tutorials, which ended up translating into this lil number. Illustrator was the software used to create it.

Image 3

Name of project: Advert for visit Essex

Brief and description: We were asked to create an advert which encouraged tourism in Essex through the used of 3ds studio max.

Conceptual and technical process: This is a screen shot from part of my animation in which a camera flies over a field and into a household through the window. It took an age to render partly because it was rendering on my mediocre laptop. Im pretty sure the fur modifier and skylights didn’t help the cause…

Designing graphics for the exibition site:

I have been asked to design the icon for the visiting, student profiles and map pages. I used illustrator to create a application looking circle much like the safari browser icon. I felt this worked well as it went with he overall modern and clean looking design of the site using basic colours and textures. i then used some vectors of a plane, person and outline of England to signify the three pages. we didn't want anything to complicated as it might not work with the rest of the page and didn't want to detract from the text and headings.

Here are the three icons i created above:

Profile pics taken for site:

last tuesday the photo's where taken for the individual profile pics for each student on the website. They have been added to the drop-box folder so that the students can pick their own photo's to be used on the site. we used the photography studio and lighting to try and get a professional finish on the pics. me and henry have then sized all the photos ready for posting on the web site for completion.

Rebranded CV

here is the rebranded CV following the style of my website and business cards, this is defiantly growing on me.

Re branded business cards

Here is my new business cards, i'm really happy with how they came out. I listened to Mariana's advice and played around with the colours and format and ended up with this design which matches my website.

Personal website:

Here is my site with the new logo i designed for the CV and business cards, i think it works allot better then the original one as seen on my site below. I think it works better because it stands out a bit more and does go with the text.

I have nearly finished my personal website, portfolio. Ive made most of the pages with a consistent design which i am happy with and goes with my branding. I may actually change my CV and business card to the style of my website coz i think it works really well. Have a look yourself at menziesdesign.co.uk

The design decisions on making this website were fairly easy i had sat down and decided the colours a while ago, white, black and orange. They seem to work well together and dont clash which is key. The layout is fairy clean and i have used a few of my characters designed in illustrator to jazz up the pages a bit buy animating them on each page navigation, which looks cool. The flip book on my portfolio is the thing im most proud of it looks and works really great just like a actually physical portfolio book.

good notes mariana :)

Groups divided into web, graphics, help

I have decided to go and help out with the website so i have been put into this group, we have are team leaders sorted out and have been given task to carryout. being on the web team we will be responsible for the website and all its content including photos of the students and their 3 pieces of work. also a small bio about each student. we have started buy booking the photography studio and getting all the students to come their during mariana's lesson on tuesday.

My presentation files:

Here is the stuff that i have produced for our presentation 2moro, it consists of a time line example of the overall theme and a quick board layout which incorporates the theme of gaming history on it. I also did a 3D model of a pixel art character from pac man, the little pink ghost characters which try and eat him. i simply used my illustrator version as a reference and it came out ok in 3DS max. The idea of the pixel art was to incorporate it into the gaming theme so we could build 3d models in the gallery which would be really cool.

Pixel art example in illustrator

Here is an example i did in illustrator taking games characters and drawing them in pixel format. this is the ghost from pac-man which was designed as a pixel based character because of the game format and capabilities of the console at the time. The idea is to do it in a time line, but adding the element of design buy using this style of graphic design/illustartion.

Group idea....

After meeting up as a group on friday we still couldn't exactly decide what we wanted to go for in the presentation coming up this tuesday, we have sort off agreed on doing the gaming history theme but we would like to incorporate pixel art into the idea to because we like the idea of doing that. so we are gonna meet up tuesday early morning and sort everything out ready for 1.00pm presentation.

Business Cards

Back View:

Front view:

Here are the business cards i made after i had designed and branded my self with the logo and colour scheme. I decided to keep them simple and clean, i was going to do some sort of fancy cut out on the side of the cog but i decided against it in the end.

Re design of my CV

After sitting in marias lecture this week and looking at other peoples CV's and business cards i gave me lots of cool ideas for how i wanted to do mine. After sitting down and thinking about how i wanted to brand myself and the logo and design i wanted to use. these are what i came up with which im quite pleased with:

CV: This i am very pleased with, I came up with a logo in illustrator buy drawing a cog on paper and then tracing it. I dont know why i like this but i think it works well as a simple logo, and as maria said if it fits lots of different application and scenarios it should work well, which it did. As for the text i just stripped my original one right down so that it would fit on one page and still give enough detail and info to the employer as the examples maria showed us did.

Rough theme idea poster thingy

This one is focused on character developments through the time computer games have been in use. Although it could incorporate any computer game related content just fort id use characters for speed. look at it like a timeline poster something like that with some typography in the background of release dates for the games featured.

Mood board for computer games theme

I use these alot for generating ideas and designs so i decided to put together a mood board of all the elements of computer gaming that i think are relevant to the gallery theme. Its already got my idea's rolling and i can start doing some mock up designs now.

Initial idea for theme of gallery

After researching i found that an idea which had been popping into my head for a theme is computer games. when i say computer games i mean the whole genre from consoles to games and characters themselves and how they have developed and changed over time. I think this would work because everyone can relate to there favorite game and has memorys connected with them. Also our projects all have relevance with computer games down to 3D, Graphic design,Programming ect. Ill put some more ideas onto paper and see how this theme progresses.

Research into pro exhibitions

I spent some time looking at other professional exhibitions/gallerys and i found some really interesting layouts and ideas. These are the ones i picked out because i liked certain features or just fort they looked really cool and interesting.

This is a nice board layout, its for Skypes new logos and apps. I would like to set my personal board out in a similar ways, looks very clean and professional which i like alot.

This layout exhibition looks really coo,l i love the way the walls and roof all bend and link round making it look really modern and stylish. I would defiantly consider using ideas from this in my chosen theme for the exhibition.

This exhibition i like allot because of the variation in colours and textures, it would also be quite cool if a section of the exhibition had chairs with work on tables so people could sit and look at work rather then constantly be on there feet.

This is taken from the Tate modern i love the graphic on the walls and the really clean wooden floor, i think this is a entrance to an exhibition but if we can try and create a similar feel with the clean lines and cool graphics it would work really well for our gallery, well we can try :p.

Another factor which will be hard to create is the feeling of space in the room, obviously with the amount of people and the floor space we have been given this will be very hard to do. The plus points of having visual space is that people feel calm and have more attention on the students work and are able to appreciate them more which is the overall goal of this.

Research into previous galleries

I found the blog address for one of last years galleries which maria mentioned in class, it was in the theme of design studio and it has given me some good ideas on what we can be expected to produce. After looking at the pictures of the layout of the gallery i wasn't very impressed as i fort it looked a lil messy and didn't really address the theme that well in my own forts. I think that we can come up with a much better theme and implement it allot better too, i hope :P. Even tho i didn't think much to the design it has given me some really good ideas about props and layout and what will be expect of us at the end of the module which is always handy to know. If you want to check out the blog address it is:

Area we have been given to do the gallery

We have been given the floating floor on top of the Marconi building at Anglia ruskin university. This is actually quite a nice area because it is long and straight which works well for a gallery as the viewers can walk down the gallery with no turns or misleading corridors to follow. The only problems i can see are if we want to use lighting and projectors because of the amount of windows and light which come through the area. We will have to think about this when coming up with ideas for the theme, but im sure it can be overcome with some good old common sense.

Initial thoughts to brief

This module has asked us to display pieces of work that we are proud of whilst at Anglia ruskin university in a web/exhibition at the campus. we have been asked to come up with a theme for the exhibition in groups which can be applied to the entire event. we also have to improve our portfolios and other branding to help us in employment after uni, CV ect. I am looking forward to this gallery and i think it will be hard selecting pieces of work that i really like from what i have created, as there is quite a few over the years. This should be a good module and i look forward to the final gallery and exhibition at the end of the year.
